Fire Trucks / Earthquake Detection and Warning System for Rescue Operations

W-Sies for safe post-earthquake rescue operations

"W-Sies" warns rescue staff of incoming aftermath tremors and helps prevent secondary disasters. It is effective in calamities like collapsed buildings, fallen elevated highways, landslides, etc. Aftermath tremors of a major earthquake not only increase the complexity of rescue operations but also endanger the lives of victims as well as rescue staff. In Japan, an earthquake-prone country, rescue & fire fighting departments widely use this kind of alert systems and deem them to be indispensable during rescue operations. 3 sensors pick vertical acceleration to detect Primary wave of an earthquake. The inbuilt processor prevents false alerts by reacting to waves between 1.5 to 8 Hz only. The ground vibrations caused by heavy machineries used during rescue operations generate waves of 3Hz and 10Hz, which are safely filtered out by the system.

Sensors are robust and very easy to put into operation. Conventional alert systems require sensors to be installed in level with the ground, which takes at least 5 to 10 minutes but may take longer time in case of uneven terrain. In addition, the setting and initialization is done through a PC. Whereas, W-Seis is ready to use "as is", without requiring a PC, and the sensors, not needing any leveling, can be simply put on the ground.
